FILE FORMAT GUIDE
Camtasia TSCPROJ Project (.TSCPROJ)
A TSCPROJ file is a Camtasia editing project. It stores the editing timeline and references source media, so sharing only the project may leave recordings or other assets missing.

What is TSCPROJ?
TSCPROJ describes a video editing project rather than an exported video. Camtasia can save a standalone project to keep assets together. When moving work, distinguish the project from its source recordings and the final video export.
How to open TSCPROJ
Use the source-specific workflow below and preserve the original file.
Camtasia EditorWindows / macOS; check version and media compatibility
Open the project in compatible Camtasia Editor with its source assets available. Import a zipped project using the editor's project import workflow. Work on a copy before saving in a newer release.
Common uses and compatibility
- Save edits and references to source media for an ongoing Camtasia video project.
- Collaborate using a standalone or zipped project with its assets included.
Things to check
- A bare project file can refer to media stored elsewhere on the original computer.
- Cross-platform support does not mean every media type or effect is supported on both systems.

How to open a TSCPROJ project
Use a compatible version of Camtasia Editor and retain the source assets. A zipped project should be imported through the editor rather than opened as a finished video.
- Preserve a copy of the project and all associated media.
- Open the project in Camtasia, or use File > Import > Zipped Project for an exported project archive.
- Check the timeline for missing or incompatible media before saving a copy.

Why are recordings missing from the project?
The project records media locations. Copying only the project file may leave those files on the original machine. Return to that machine and create a standalone or zipped project that includes the media.

How do I convert TSCPROJ to MP4?
Open the complete project in Camtasia and export the timeline as a video. Renaming the project to .mp4 does not render its edits or include missing source media. Keep the project for future editing and the exported video for viewing.

Can I open it on both Windows and Mac?
TechSmith documents cross-platform TSCPROJ support beginning with Camtasia 9 on Windows and Camtasia 3 on Mac. Its current sharing guide also warns that some media and effects are not supported across platforms. Check the actual editor versions and project assets.

TSCPROJ vs TREC and CAMPROJ
TREC is a recording source. TSCPROJ is the editing project that can reference recordings. CAMPROJ is an older project type with its own migration path; its filename cannot simply be changed into a TSCPROJ project.
